Build assemblies

Save a bundle of lines priced for a set quantity, such as 10 m of kerb, and add it to a bid scaled to the quantity the job needs.

An assembly is a bundle of lines you price the same way on every job, written for a set quantity: the materials, crew and machine for 10 m of kerb and channel, say. When you add it to a bid you enter the quantity the job needs, and every line in it scales to match.

Assemblies are on the Assemblies tab of the Bids page, under Clients & Projects, then Bids.

Create an assembly

  1. Open the Assemblies tab and select Create Assembly.
  2. Enter the Assembly Name and the Unit Type you measure it in, such as m, m² or each.
  3. Enter the Quantity per Unit: how many units the lines below are written for. For "10 m of kerb and channel", enter 10.
  4. Add a Description if it helps others pick the right one.
  5. Build the lines for that quantity, exactly as on a bid. See Create a bid.
  6. Select Create Assembly.

Edit Assembly page for a kerb and channel assembly written per 10 m

The note under the fields, such as "Quantities below are per 10 m", reminds you what the lines are written for.

Add an assembly to a bid

  1. On the bid, select the arrow beside Add line, then Assemblies.
  2. In Select Work Assembly, select Select Assembly on the one you want.
  3. Enter the Units the job needs, in the assembly's unit type.
  4. Check the preview of the scaled lines and the total, then select Add to Bid.

The lines are added as a copy at the bottom of the bid, where you can change them like any other line. On a template the button reads Add to Template.

How the lines scale

Every line is multiplied by the units you enter divided by the assembly's Quantity per Unit. The preview shows the factor, such as "Scaling: 30.000 units ÷ 10 = 300.0% of assembly definition".

For the kerb and channel assembly above, written per 10 m, entering 30:

LineIn the assemblyOn the bid
Kerb and channel, supply and lay10 m at $72.00/m30 m, $2,160.00
Kerb machine and crew0.5 day at $2,200.00/day1.5 days, $3,300.00

Fixed prices scale too, so a $500 fixed line becomes $1,500 at three times the quantity.

Change or delete an assembly

Select an assembly's name, or Edit in its ... menu, to change it. Delete in the same menu removes it. Bids and templates that already use an assembly keep their copy of its lines either way.
